Mike is a writer and historian, specialising in Cornish history. My new book, The Menhenitt Family - A Family in Eleven Centuries was successfully published on 14th November 2008.It is available in hardback from myself or all good bookshops throughout Cornwall.
On 8 April Mike was the guest of Donna Birrel on her afternoon programme (she was sitting in for Martin Bailie who was doing the lunchtime stint throughout Easter week)on BBC Radio Cornwall. Our chat on air was listened to by thousands! A big thank you to Donna, Martin Bailie, who originally asked me on his show, and all at the BBC in Truro. You made Sara and I very welcome and it was lovely to meet you all. It was a wonderful experience to be live on air and to see how a radio station operates. If you get the chance to see over the station then do take advantage.
Cornwall Today magazine have featured the book and the family extensively in a double page spread in their April 2009 edition which was published towards the end of March.Get your copy now at your local newsgents! It is a fantastic article and a big thank you to all at Cornwall Today for taking such an interest in our family history.
Thank you to all at Kingsley Village for inviting me on 6 December for what was a successful book signing session. Thank you to all of you who came to talk to me and for buying the book. which I hope you enjoy reading.
By 7 December the book was completely sold out on it's first print run. The book has now been reprinted and is available from me or from all good bookshops in Cornwall.
The book has been entered into The Holyer an Gof awards for 2009. This is regarded as Cornwall's Booker Prize and is organised annually by Gorseth Kernow for a Cornish publication about Cornwall. As well as the trophy there is a Literary Salver presented by the Cornish Literary Guild and seven other prizes. The ceremony is held annually, usually in July, at Waterstones, Truro. The book is being entered in the category for Adult Non Fiction of Local Studies. You can see how it got on later on another page.
As a result of the book's publication there was the first ever worldwide gathering of the Menhenitt family on 25 April 2009, in Wadebridge and again more details can be found on another page. More details from me at mike.menhenitt@btinternet.com Cornwall Life in their July edition published a report and picture of the reunion, so a big thank you to them. The Cornish Guardian also published an article and picture in the second week of May, so again out thanks to them. Cornwall Today also did a report on the reunion, so thank you to them.
Mike has begun research for his new novel, based in Cornwall in the 18th century, which will be published in late 2009 or maybe in 2010. Watch this site for details! In the meantime if any literary agents or Cornish publishers are reading this please get in touch - this author needs you and would dearly love for a Cornish publisher to get involved!
